Comparing the few datapoints below, I am bullish about China and oscitant about clean tech manufacturing in U.S.

Vinod Kholsa: I personally expect that any startup that is developing their own manufacturing equipment will have a large gap between the promise of a technology and delivery time and its reality; those promised cost advantages will be hard to come by.

Contrast this with China's innovation and execution:

Haier released a washing machine capable of washing both clothes and potatoes, the 2009 upgraded version of which led Haier to become the number one provider of laundry equipment in the entire world.

Haier came up with a second innovation: the rodent-proof fridge. The specially designed refrigerator features metal plates to cover holes in the fridge and uses thicker “bite-proof” wiring.
