Brutal Honesty.
An entrepreneur can never fall in love with your business. If you do, you will fail to make the hard but necessary decisions. Mr Wu Jianguang of Really feels that Really’s culture is built on “brutal honesty”. When he was working as a manager purchasing items for the store. a supplier shoved money ($5) into his pocket. “When I found out, I immediately returned it to him and I told him this can’t be done. Business is grounded on integrity and trust. We cannot afford to make mistakes. We have to be “Really” in doing business - to be honest, methodical and not pursue shortcuts. I went through my school days, working through the evenings for $4-5 RMB. My workplace was infested with insects and rodents, but it was good money and I preserved. When I came to Shanghai, I delivered goods on bicycles delivering large stacks of shoes and stuff, both for fitness training and also to cut cost. Mr Wu openly expresses that if he was no longer fit for the job i.e. if the company was scaling beyond his management ability, he would step down immediately.
