Mr Chan set up the ING-sponsored Baring Communications Equity Asia (“BCEA”) in 1996 as the first specialized regional media and communication fund under the combined sponsorship of the ING Group and the Singapore Economic Development Board. He was responsible for the general management, investment/divestment strategy of the fund as well as investor relations. Mr Chan led the spin out of the BCEA team into Crest as an independent regional private equity practice. Since then, he has initiated a number of fund mandates which Crest currently manages across the region.
Prior to BCEA from 1987, he was with one of the earliest US-sponsored venture capital funds in Asia where he successfully led and participated in many regional IPOs including exits for portfolio companies. Prior to joining the industry, Mr Chan was with Arthur Andersen & Co, Singapore.
Mr Chan holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) Degree from the National University of Singapore, is an Overseas Union Bank Scholar and a Fellow of the both Institute of Certified Public Accountant in Singapore and CPA Australia. Mr Chan is Singaporean and is fluent in English, Mandarin and other major Chinese dialects.
